Bruno Fernandes captaincy call into question as Premier League legends criticise Man United’s mentality.

Premier League legends Ian Wright and Jermain Defoe have questioned whether Bruno Fernandes is the right man to be the on-field leader at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United were valiant in their 2-2 draw with rivals and league leaders Liverpool – they were arguably unlucky not to win – but they are still on ยูฟ่าเบท a four match winless run in the league and sit in 13th.

The result has raised further questions on the mentality of the players; it gives the appearance the side can get themselves up for big rivalry matches. But struggle in games to be of a perceived lesser importance.

It is something the manager has an influence over. Wright and Defoe believe there needs to be accountability within the players, and they doubt Fernandes has what it takes to do that.

“You look at Bruno Fernandes and you think ‘are you the one that’s driving those sorts of messages?’” Defoe

“You have to put that pressure on your teammates, you have to drive those standards as players.

“A lot of managers talk about leadership groups, a manager can’t do everything. As players, especially the senior players that have been there and understand, you have to drive those messages.

“I played with Ledley King, [he was] so quiet but he led by example. David Beckham for England. He led by example.”

Wright agreed, saying Fernandes can be led by his emotions too much at times, saying it can then be counter-productive.
